The Pumpkin Patch

I'm going to make a confession: I'm not really into Halloween. Aside from the year I went as a Care Bear (I was six and it was the best costume EVER), I don't think I ever had a Halloween that was that amazing. Maybe it comes down to my lack of creativity in the costume department, or maybe it's just the fact that my expectations for most holidays are rarely lived up to, but the whole spooky-element of Halloween in particular has never been very appealing to me.

One thing I can get behind however is going to the pumpkin patch and picking out the perfect little pumpkin. I love everything about the season's pumpkin carving ritual: from the smell of baking pumpkin seeds to carving out a perfectly tealight-sized circle on the bottom of the pumpkin for the candle, it's always been a process that I've been very fond of. I'm not the best with knives (that's an understatement) so I made sure to pick a teeeeeeny-tiny, oh-so-cute pumpkin that I could hopefully handle.

Speaking of Halloween, as usual I have nooooo idea what I'm going to go as. I was thinking Gwen Stefani circa No Doubt's "I'm Just a Girl" video but unless I want to invest in a platinum blonde wig, that may not be the best fit. What are you going as?

  5. I'm liking how you style your hunter boots. And I'm kind of with you on Halloween. I love the idea of it but when it comes down to putting together a costume... it just seems like so much effort. Especially as a kid when you need to wear three snowsuits underneath your costume. But this year I'm making my roommate go as Rosie the Riveter.

  8. It's no surprise to me that you're not a halloween girl, mainly because I'm not, either ;) I'm actually a little bit relieved to be in Paris this year, where Halloween has just barely begun to catch on - good-bye, pressure to come up with a costume I'm not into! Personally, I think you look perfectly lovely just as yourself - especially in that red sweater. Has to be one of my faves in your wardrobe :)

Pumpkin carving is definitely one of my favourite parts of halloween. I went as a Rag Doll last year and a Peacock the year before but I'm not really celebrating this year

  17. I am so, so jealous that you got to go to the pumpkin patch, Alex! I've been trying to go for the last few Sundays but we've kept getting rained out =( Anyway, these photos are beautiful (Matt's handiwork?) and your outfit is just perfect for the occasion. Casual but chic (and I learned after trudging in mud last year that wellies are mandatory for the patch)!

    See you soon lovely!

  18. Such a gorgeous outfit - love the cozy snood and the camel skirt! Our family has a tradition of going to the pumpkin patch every year and getting pictures of the kids sitting on the hay - it's so fun to look back at all of them and see how much they've grown! :)

Once I purchase a costume I always think of better ones :P
-Slutty Pumpkin (How I Met Your Mother)
    -Madonna (cone boob/blonde ponytail era)
...You'd make a great Wonderwoman, but I'm assuming you've probably done that costume before?

    Happy Halloween

  42. I'm not into the scary-moovie-marathon-haunted-house aspect of Halloween either, but I do love Halloween because I love costumes and because I love fall. For me, it's aaaaaallllllll about pumpkins and apples.
