About

Welcome to To Vogue or Bust! I'm Alexandra, the girl behind the laptop.

I began To Vogue or Bust on the 13th of April, a very uncharacteristic choice given the fact that anyone who knows me can attest to how insanely superstitious I am. Thing is, I'd spent a whole year making the "right" decisions and could not have been less happy, so if I was going to go against the grain, starting on unlucky 13 seemed as good a time as any.

I had finished university the year prior to the beginnings of To Vogue or Bust and had spent my time since then studying for the LSAT and applying to law schools, all the while becoming increasingly aware of this gnawing anxiety in the pit of my stomach. I had known from a young age that writing was my passion and it's what I always thought I'd end up doing, but who makes a career out of writing these days, right? What's more, how could I make it in the world of lifestyle writing or communications, where jobs are few and very far between? So I made the mistake that many fresh grads do: I looked to where a stable income would be and headed off in that direction.

Well, if you're not destined for it, sometimes making a sensible choice can be incredibly insensible. The cumulative toll of anxiety finally reached its breaking point and I had to just accept it: I was destined for a life of creativity, innovation and a small bank account. And you know what? Compared to pursuing the wrong career path, I'd rather take the less-than-stable finances and cut my losses.

Just like making the "sensible" choice proved to be incredibly insensible, the choice to make incredibly unlucky 13 my start date has also worked out in an unexpectedly lucky way. Since beginning To Vogue or Bust, I have worked my way through different communications fields (including public relations, social media marketing and digital media), gone back to school for a post-grad journalism program, landed an incredible online editorial internship at FASHION Magazine and grown in unimaginable ways with To Vogue or Bust. I'm still very far from where I'd like to be, but hey...at least I've started. So far, it's been an amazing ride.

To Vogue or Bust has since become home to my musings on life and ever-evolving career path, my opportunity to try out different beauty or skin care tips, my space to share lifestyle or health tidbits and last but definitely not least, my very own virtual walk-in closet where I get to share my unique brand of relatable personal style with all of you!
