To Market, To Market

What I wore for a quick grocery run yesterday: linen and bubblegum pink!

Club Monaco hat & top, American Apparel skirt, H&M sandals, bag c/o Mary Nichols, ring c/o Social Experiment
I had my first real bout of homesickness last night. I’m feeling much better today (I guess the fact that it’s raining reminds me of home?) and I know it always takes a good couple of weeks to adjust, so I’m hoping it all just passes soon – anyone have any tips, if there can really be any tips for homesickness/adjusting to a new space?

Happy humpday everyone!

What a fashionista! I really love your bag. I moved 3 times in my whole life. Homesickness can be pretty tough, especially for the first few months. Moving to a new place definitely takes some getting used to, it is a whole new adventure, new place, new people, and new friends. Thank goodness we have the technology that we have today, back then I used to make endless phone calls to my friends and chat, now there's skype and facebook. Keeping in touch with friends and family helps with the homesickness blues.

Gorgeous outfit, love your hat! I hope you're feeling better! Homesickness is horrible, especially as there isn't anything you can take to get rid of it! Whenever I'm away from what I consider to be a long time, I'm usually okay until I call home, and then I can't help but burst into tears! I'm sure you'll get used to it soon enough!

Awww, I am sorry you are feeling homesick! That's got to be tough. I'm glad you've got a few friends with you. Get some comfort food; call home. It will get easier. You are doing the right thing- getting out and about.

And the sun flare in the photos is beautiful.

Aw, I'm sorry to hear about your homesickness 🙁 I was the same way after moving from CA to FL… I would say call your loved ones and talk to them, or watch a funny movie and laugh, those always cured me right up!

You look beautiful, love that skirt and bag.

  15. 5.16.12

I love the pics in this post! And the last one too, your newly adopted city is about to get some serious style 🙂 Don't worry about homesickness, home is always where you left it, just enjoy now.

And thanks for stopping by my blog, I will let you know when I update about the Paleo thing, it is going really well actually, I feel really healthy!

Such a cute outfit! As for the homesickness, there's really no cure. I felt the same when I moved out to Ontario, especially considering how different the scenery is. It's just not the same without mountains!

You're definitely doing the right thing by getting out of your apartment and exploring the city, that's the easiest way to forget what you're missing. My biggest suggestion would be to find a good routine to settle into that includes the things you enjoy and time talking to your family back home. Once you find a good balance you'll find that the homesickness will fade. Hope it gets better! 🙂

Lovely look! I need some linen in my life…

I moved to England for half a year and was SO homesick at first. The things that made it better were: calling my family as I walked around town (on a cell with skype), finding cute places that made me happy (coffee shops, parks, restaurants), and eating good food. After a rough few weeks, I ended up loving it. Good luck!

At least you recognized your homesickness for what it was! When I moved away for a co-op placement one summer, homesickness didn't hit me until halfway through and I was completely blindsided, not even recognizing it for what it was. Who gets homesick 1.5 months into a co-op?

All the best in TO, lady!

You know, pally, if it weren't for the fact that I make Ian do all of the grocery shopping, I would feel like a very poorly dressed errand runner compared to you. I just adore that pink pleated skirt. Could it be any more adorable? I think not. Missing you tons already – I just posted the photos of your going away on my facebook page last night, so sad. But it looks like you're having an incredible adventure, and I'm sure the homesickness will pass very soon 🙂

What a great color combo, Alex! Love the bubblegum pink (I love anything pink I noticed lately). Your tan make the sweet pink pop in a way, very summer-y pretty 🙂

Yeah well, homesickness… Tell me about it! What helped me with my move to Vancouver is – and this going to sound so cheesy – meeting the fun group of blogger girls! Really, if I hadn't started my blog, I would probably still be trying to find a social life somewhere (or I would have given up). Never thought of myself as a social butterfly, but I have noticed that meeting new people can really help creating a new home. It will never replace your "old" home, but it will keep you entertained and distracted.

I find that I'm only homesick when I miss the people back home so it always helps to have something with me to keep them close like a picture or an item of clothing of their to hug tight. It helps sometimes…but its really tough.

Love the sweater. And tips on homesickness…make a cup of tea and curl up and do something you love. It will pass, it always does. I think it's more about getting through that moment where you feel hopeless and for me a cuppa and my knitting usually helps (reality TV doesn't usually hurt either)

  37. 5.17.12

The lighting in these photos is beautiful and you are gorgeous as always. Love the hat on you! When I moved to Vancouver by myself when I was 20 I remember crying the first week from homesickness! You're not alone. But remember you haven't been there very long, those feelings will lessen as time passes and you get used to your surroundings and explore your new (and exciting!) city. And thank heavens for phones, the internet and skyping to keep in touch with your close friends and family! Hang in there! xo

For a good year (maybe a bit more ? ) I had a homesickness when I moved to Ireland.Didn't helped even fact that I was living with my boyfriend. I think the best thing how to deal with it is just keep yoursef busy. Explore new place and have as much fun as you can and day by day you will use to new place, new people, new friends and you will find a lots of wonderful places where to dine, have a cup of coffee, listen to great music, to find some great books.. I hope you will find these all places and more in your new city.Oh, you will darling! You look absolutely amazing in all those photos which you have shared with us and this look is no exception.Beautiful!

sweetness, you gotta go through it to get through it but there's always the phone. get on it and make as many calls as you need! it took me a year before i even committed to a doctor and dentist when i 1st moved there, just didn't want to make that "final" cut on the old life.

this is all experience and growth, the pain pangs now will make for wise insights later, best believe!!

you look more beautiful with each stroll down the quaint city streets. gorgeous bubblegum color and the whole look is foolproof femininity. xo ♥

I don't get homesick very often, but the few times I have, I've just kept busy (lame suggestion, right?). I try to explore as much as possible in my new place so that it keeps my attention and my thoughts don't wander to whatever it is I might be missing. Find something new to try/see!
