Blackbird Singing in the Dead of Night

Club Monaco skirt, BCBG clutch, necklace c/o Blackbird, Kimchi Blue heels

Matt and I were walking by those dumpsters on the way to this shoot and I just thought to myself “This is it…this is the perfect spot. I have to have these in the shoot. They’re beautiful.”

And by that I mean that I didn’t realized that I was posing in front of a whole lineup of dumpsters until I got home and reviewed the pictures, immediately unleashing an “ARRRGH” (not argh though, another word, starts with an f rhymes with duck). It is, as Mugatu once said, “Derelicte!!!!”

Anyway, photo mishap or not, I am still loving this whole thing though namely because of my new black and gold plexiglass necklace by Blackbird. I sat down for a quick coffee with these ladies the other day and aside from being lovely people, I was so taken by their unique creative process and their take on modern navajo, an interpretation that’s found throughout their latest collection. Take this Gold Heart necklace, for example: I love that though it’s strikingly modern, it hints at Navajo jewellery and design. That and I always love something that manages to make a statement but in a subtle, elegant way – this piece definitely hits that mark. Be sure to check out their online shop for more stunning pieces!

In other news, I’m doing my first giveaway in a looong time tomorrow! Stay tuned to see what’s up for grabs!

Happy Thursday everyone 🙂

Ha that's the one thing my bf is aware of when taking my pictures. Our neighborhood has trash bins out on the sidewalks for the buildings and he always directing me away from them lol. But when it comes to tags sticking out or anything like that he misses that. But on a good note I didn't even notice the dumpsters in the background! You look great. I'm loving your skirt and necklace!

This necklace is amazing, I love it!! What a wonderful piece, it's so cool that you got to meet them too. It's awesome to hear the process behind how something is created . I love the blouse and skirt as well, great look! I hate when I take pictures and there ends up being something in the background or my hair is sticking out weirdly, ugh.

Happy Thursday to you, too! Sorry about the dumpsters, but that Blackbird necklace is fabulous.

I have so many photo fails in my archives just like this one, it's ridiculous. Seriously, how many dumpsters are there in the world and how do they always manage to leap into otherwise beautiful fashion photos? It doesn't really matter, though, since your outfit is a very pretty distraction. I love the modern, almost spacey style of your necklace but it's that gorgeous clutch that really got my attention 🙂 And as for the holidays… You know where I'm going in September, silly! Wish I was stopping in TO on the way, but the flights didn't work out for that. Miss you!

I think the necklace is really pretty, but I think I'd have chosen an other top to go with it, it's a bit too much with the details on the top
but that's just me, you look pretty as always 🙂

Alexandra, you stand out. Dumpsters is part of every city and no matter where you turn your head smaller or bigger, but they're every where. Don't worry they are not ruining your wonderful photoshoot.Actually I like this contrast of your lovely look and not so pretty background. It's edgy and cool. I find myself loving more those photos of rough background – old ruins, old peeling off paint walls or just in old, messy, desserted building. Once we took some shots in old sugar house where everything was messy and awful. Everyone who seen as taking there photos or just knew that we are taking there was sneering about it, but when we showed photos none could believe that they was taken there.
I leave you link just as proof

That necklace definitely makes a statement- and somehow it seems even more elegant with that embroidery on the neckline instead of competing against it.
