Failing Good

Club Monaco coat & gloves, jeans c/o Fidelity Denim, scarf c/o Gap Canada
BCBG clutch, sunnies c/o SmartBuyGlasses, T c/o Jacob , earrings c/o Poshlocket

Two bright things to start your weekend off right: 1. this peach/fuchsia jolt of colour via Gap Canada, livening up an otherwise neutral look, and 2. this amazing article by Marie Forleo on why feeling like a failure can actually be a blessing in disguise. Maybe it's the motivational psych major in me or maybe it's the fact that from my own experience, my low points have actually taught me quite a few valuable lessons (not to mention I'm only very recently emerging from a bit of a rough patch), but something about this article really struck a chord with me.

What I really took from the whole thing is that even if you feel like a failure in the moment (which we all do at some point or another, some of us more than others [I'm definitely the former]), the important thing is to never lose that deep faith/trust that you can get yourself to where you need to be one day. And on the way, you experience failures and successes of all magnitudes and learn to roll with the punches, turn your mistakes into lessons and move forward to your ultimate goal.

And like Russell Simmons says in the article, not everyone's going to get it. You're not always going to get affirmation for your decisions, no matter what your path is or what part of your life is being met with some opposition (choosing not to marry, an unconventional career move, etc). Having deep trust in yourself and your plans means persevering even if hataaas or close ones just don't understand why you're doing what you're doing...within reason, of course. Like Dory says, you've got to just keep swimming.

So wow, obviously I read too many Oprah updates on Twitter last night (she's in town at the moment and I'm almost overwhelmed with O-spiration). But seriously, check out Marie, she's so inspiring and I love her messages of empowerment, all delivered in a modern and completely relatable way.

Oh and PS, I cut my hair! It was so long, we had to cut part of it with me standing behind the chair. I have so many layers in front that I never noticed how freakishly long it was getting in the back. Anyway, still need to wait for my "bangs," i.e. the limp little pieces around my face, to grow out entirely (WHYYY did I ever get them), but in about three months' time we can do an even more blunt cut! Oh and I finally found my Vancouver stylist...Nura at Ka!Boom was amazing and I'll definitely be seeing her from now on. Would definitely recommend her to any Vancouverite looking to trim their tresses.

Happy weekend everyone!

  4. I love this look, I probably would have nixed the scarf and kept it neutral for a more polished look but I like that you take chances!

  6. I always have to stand behind the chair when I get my hair cut. It is so awkward. And I loved that article and the site in general. Such good advice.

Also love the bright pink with the neutral coat.

  9. I love the pop of bright pink in this look, such a great way to brighten any look. And that article sounds really awesome, I have definitely learned so much from my low points, and as painful as they were I wouldn't change a thing. Definitely the right attitude to have, it's so important to believe in yourself.
And finding a good stylist is so awesome! I bet you're loving the new length
